Detroit based project Mission to the Sun synthesizes ambient, post-industrial landscapes with expansive arrangements and haunting vocals to create an atmosphere of lamentation for the world left behind. One can imagine a spaceship turned synthesizer in which the two members of the project live as they go further and further from their home world into the fiery inferno of the Sun. The journey progresses and memories of a life lived dissolve into fragments of cut up film.
Mission to the Sun consists of Christopher Samuels (synths, samples, programming) who is a member of Ritual Howls and Kirill Slavin (vocals). Samuels creates alien, foreboding landscapes sparsely filled with snippets of industrial noise and hypnotic synth riffs. It’s in these landscapes that Slavin’s voice mourns the loss of access to universal consciousness and the drudgery of everyday life.
